In April 2023 Charles Harper, of Harper Services Limited working for Morrison Utility Services on the HS2 Area North project, received fatal injuries when he was struck by the end of a pipe coil as it was being fed from a coil trailer. The stored energy released during the unwind caused the end of the pipe to come out of the side of the coil trailer with force.
Following the concluding remarks of the coroner's prevention of future deaths report BBV have worked with The Pipeline Industries Guild and the British Drilling Association to share the lessons learned and more importantly the changes that will be implemented industry wide to ensure this tragic incident doesn’t happen again.
