Water pipeline installation projects present several substantial challenges. One of the most significant is accommodating for differential settlement, which is when soils compact and consolidate at different rates. Differential settlement places stresses on pipe components that are operating under pressure.

Contending with differential settlement is a challenge particularly for pipelines because it affects the performance of connectors, joints and other areas subjected to high stresses.

The traditional solution to control dynamic movement and restrain the joints involved in a piping system is the use of C219 unrestrained couplings with a harness/Tie rods. However, extensive testing and in-field project performance continues to demonstrate that grooved couplings can provide full restraint and flexibility as well as withstand needed joint end load and shear requirements.Water pipeline installation projects present several substantial challenges.
